Rags to Rucksack

Back at the beginning of June, I blogged about some old curtains I had come across

Well, this is what I made.

And I added a little embroidery detail onto the bird.

I goes everywhere with me now.

    1. Hi, yes I'm on the look out for more old curtains. I think a darker bag for winter. It was a bit of an afterthought to put on the embroidery and I'm happy how it turned out.

  2. That is beautiful the embroidery adds a nice touch. Well done on your prize for the bon bon dish. When I was a girl my mother had so many pieces of starched crochet around the house, your dish has bought back some wonderful memories, Thank you.

    1. Thank you. The embroidery is a bit free style, glad I did it, especially the bead detail for the eye. That's noticed first.

    1. Thank you. I've picked up a plain red jacket, just wondering about adding some embroidery to make it unique. Watch this space.

  5. That looks wonderful! The embroidery detail is such a super touch...and can you believe I've been looking at old curtains and wondering if they would work for a rucksack!? How bizarre - but you've proved to me that it does work, very well too! Chrissie x

    1. Hi Chrissie. I've had some great comments for it. I used quite stiff interfacing to help it keep it's shape and it is lined. If I make another I would use larger eyelets and perhaps add a zip pocket to keep keys in, oh and add a little but more embroidery detail. Give it a go, I'd live to see how it turns out.

  6. Lovely! And it seems that we have been going similar ways: salvaging old fabrics and creating something new from them! I love your rucksack, and that little birdie is perfect!

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Yours,

  7. What a wonderful use for this fabric. Really embodies the William Morris quote about things being beautiful or useful. In this case it is both.
