Colourful Blackwork

Too many crafty things on the go. Many are secret because they are gifts for family and friends. But I can reveal my entry for the Appleby Textile Group calendar challenge. This is being held today.

Blackwork with colour.

Another busy week

Where does the time go? It's Saturday again and I've not held a crochet hook all week. Must put that right soon, I'm getting slight withdrawal symptoms.

But I've still managed some crafty stuff.

The embroidery group I'm a member of have monthly meetings where we sometimes have guest speakers. This month was the very talented Isobel Hall. She is a mixed media artist and uses everyday stuff others would throw away to make amazing objects. They looked and felt like ancient leather and started life as sugar paper, toilet paper, and bubble wrap. She transforms them with paint, wax, inks, glue and stitch, into things like these.

She also had some books for sale, I bought this one, which she kindly signed.

On Thursday I ran a workshop in a local sheltered housing complex making May Flies for an installation by a local artist for c-art. It's a small group but our contribution will be well received, I'm sure.

No crochet for me this week but my Mexican inspired hot stripes blanket has grown. I'm about a third of the way through it. It will have to take a back seat for a while as too much other stuff getting in the way. I've been preparing for night classes at Shap CDC. You just wouldn't believe the amount of paperwork required for 10 hours of class time!

Off to work now to bring in the pennies. Hope you have a great weekend.

Vintage Peg Bag

Hi, sometimes life just gives you what you want. I am putting together a new course for night school in Shap; sewing for the home. As all things vintage are in vogue, I looked around for a pattern for a peg bag which looked like a little dress, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

A neighbour is downsizing and asked if I wanted her old 1950s Singer sewing machine, of course I said yes immediately. Isn't she beautiful?

She also had this bag of goodies.

And would you know it inside folded up was a paper pattern for a peg bag.

I soon set to work, and here it is, one cute peg bag.

Ready for the students in my class to make.

Well, this is what I made.

And I added a little embroidery detail onto the bird.

I goes everywhere with me now.

Competition entries

For the first time I plucked up courage to enter some of my handicrafts in the local Agricultural Show. And i picked up 2nd prize for a crocheted article. I'm well chuffed. It's from a vintage pattern. I made the Bon Bon dish  last year.  Here is the link to that previous blog

I also entered:-

A pincushion

A cross stitch hanging

Jessie mouse

And a crocheted cushion

It was great fun and I think I will enter next year too.
