Chrissie's stitching Sundays

Hi, do take a look at Chrissie's blog, she has started a stitching Sunday blog which is full of useful hints, tips and clear instructions. Just up my street, only I'm a bit late. Life suddenly is busy and not having much time to craft as much as I want to.  Thank you Chrissie, it's a good excuse for me to do some sewing.

So having seen the blog last night  I dashed downstairs this morning to see what I could do to take part.

I have collected a few books over the years.

Not forgetting these recent craft magazines.

And they are not a new idea you know; I also have a collection of embroidery mags from the 1940s and 1950s.

Then there is this pile of transfers from the above mags.

Oh, too many ideas. I want to try something I've not tried before.

Will have plenty of time on Saturday, I hope. Had booked to go to Creative Stitches in Manchester but the coach has been cancelled and I don't like driving that far, so will have to make some creative stitchery of my own.

  1. You have so many nice books. I'm thinking about asking for a stitching book for Christmas this year, I'd really like to get better at this stuff.

    1. My grandmother started the collection and I've been adding to it for 30 years, but you can never have too many.

  2. Such a big collection Sarah - you have stirred a memory for me in the 'Needlewoman and Needlecraft' mags for I vaguely recall seeing these with my Mum or my Aunt, many years ago!
Jump on board - I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide to make - the stitchalong is a lot of fun!

    1. I'm a bit of a magpie and keep all sorts of stuff relating to needles and hooks. Only the front cover and the centre pages are in colour, and the instructions are brief. I have grand ideas of making all sorts from them, just not enough time.

  5. Ooh I love the look of all those vintage mags. I collect them too wherever I see them on sale. I still haven't started on any vintage embroidery or cross stitch yet, I need to get some of my other stuff finished first!! Might take a while. :)

    1. My list of things to make keeps on getting longer and longer. I like starting lots of things and then in a big flourish finish 2 or 3 in the same week. The magazines are harder to find now. When I started collecting there were loads. I mainly find 70s ones now. But they are a good source of inspiration too.

  6. What a fabulous array of books and magazines you have! Isn't it wonderful to have so much inspiration sitting on your bookshelves? When things get a little fraught during the day I just look up at my yarn and fabric sitting patiently on my shelves or my wonderful sewing books and I find myself grinning from ear to ear!

Warmest wishes from your most recent follower,

  7. You obviously have no shortage of inspiration - I sometimes think that makes it harder to find that perfect project when you have too much to choose from. I love to sit down and go through all my cooking, gardening, craft books and then there are all the magazines of house and garden ideas - probably why my house is never immaculate. LOL. Have a great weekend.

    1. Hi Julie, I agree. I butterfly round from one idea to another, in fact it's quite stressful. And yes my home could do with a bit of a sort out. C-Art starts the weekend so I will probably go and see some more inspirational artists. Have a good weekend yourself.

    1. Hi Hannapat, thank you for your encouraging comments. My older books were mainly handed down from my grandmother, but I have been adding to the collection over the years. Found a pattern for knitted vests the other day, sounds itchy.
