Trying something new

A bit of a late night post for me but just have to share. I have bought dressmaking patterns, and made various clothes, mainly when my daughter was young but have never tried to make my own pattern, so thought I would give it a go. Under instruction and it's harder than you think.

You need your maths skills as you need to measure, add, subtract, divide, and select the correct angles. And brown paper, sticky tape, pens, curved ruler and a yard (or metre) stick.

Oh, and a large table.

I've decided on a pair of trousers.

Paper pattern completed tonight, next task is to pin onto my practice fabric and draw round the pattern. My practice fabric is an old bed sheet.

And finally, can I show off with my Christmas cactus plant. I bought it from a budget store last year and it must be living in its perfect place as look how many flowers it is sporting.

Hope you have a good week.

  1. Making patterns is alchemy! I've done 2 knitting patterns and found them tricky. You can see the idea in your mind's eye, but transferring them to paper is something else! Have fun with the trouser pattern. Can't wait to see the results.

    1. I'll wear them to a Tuesday night knit/natter, crochet/chatter, even if they are awful. Patterns cost a lot but once you see how much work has gone into them the price seems reasonable.

  3. Wow, you are so brave! All the very best with it - especially for pants which are the most difficult garment to fit - like I said, you are so brave, but I'm sure you'll do a tremendous job with it!
Love your pretty blooms - I used to grow those years ago but haven't had any for ages which is a pity for they are gorgeous! Happy week to you, Joy x

    1. Thank you Joy, I don't feel that brave at the moment. The pattern looks huge on the table but I have such trouble getting trousers to fit so hopefully the pain I will be going through will be worth it. Going to get on with the next bit on Sunday.
