Completed Sunday stitching experiment

Happy Sunday to my blog followers and visitors. For the last few Sundays I've been linking in with Chrissie and a stitch along. I'm really enjoying the process and have been experimenting with a technique I've not tried before. Cut work. Not the delicate white work which I've seen before, but something a bit more substantial.

Today is the day I cut out some of the fabric. Scary, scary.

Shiny sharp new scissors, Sheffield Steel.


I've had them quite a while, this is the first time I've used them.



Started with the leaves.


Then moved onto the petals.

Must confess that I had to redo one of the petals, as I caught it and cut the thread.


But overall I'm pleased with how it has turned out.




No excuses now, must make a start on the housework.

      Thank you Ellie. I really don't know what to do with it now. I think it needs to be on a window so that you can see through it.

    What a beautiful piece of work! I have no idea how you managed to cut everything so perfectly and leave those wee threads intact - magic! Will you do another cutwork project? Chrissie x

      Hi Chrissie. That's very kind of you, but don't look too closely. My hand was shaking when I made the first cut. I then got a bit complacent and that's when I snipped a thread in the top petal. Would I do it again? I think I might, on a piece of finer linen.

      Hi Hannapat, I like living dangerously. It was scary as I really was doing a bit each Sunday, and I'd have looked a right Charlie if it had all gone wrong.

    It looks beautiful! I've never tried this and I think I'm afraid to, but yours came out great. :)

      Hi Jennifer, thank you. Why not give it a try. Mine was made out of an old linen tea towel and the threads were from my stash, so if it had gone wrong it wouldn't have cost me.anything.

    Gosh S, what courage you have to snip into this beautiful piece - I would have been a nervous wreck, for just one slip and pooh, so much to redo! It's gorgeous and you're a very clever lady!

      They are very sharp scissors. They are back in their box again. Yarndale was a great day out, hope it turns into a regular event.
